Free Crochet Elephant Ornament Pattern

Happy Wednesday! When brainstorming pattern ideas for this winter an elephant ornament wasn't on my mind. Our bear, bunny and soon to come llama were in the works.

My cousin asked if I could make her a stuffed elephant as a gift for one of her family members. I brainstormed and designed one in our mini size (like our cow here!) and since Christmas was just around the corner I decided to also design an elephant ornament to join the group!

The trunk was the hardest detail to design but as usual, was my favorite detail in the end! Funny how that always works out!

Her pattern is beginner friendly (only the ears are sewn on whoo hoo!) and the body and head are made in one piece.

You can find her free pattern below (and as for the mini size elephant, keep your eye out next month)!

Ears- Make 2

With grey

Round 1: Create a magic circle with 6 SC

Round 2: SC inc in each st around (12)

Round 3: *SC in the first st, SC INC in the next*, *rep around (18)

Rounds 4-6: SC around (18)

Fasten off leaving a long tail.

Scarf –

With color of choice ch 50, HDC in the 2nd ch from your hook and in each ch across. Fasten off leaving a short tail for sewing.

Assembly –

- Sew the ears onto each side of the head starting at the 6th round from the top and ending at the 12th round.

- Second, wrap the scarf around the neck twice and sew together in the back. Weave in your ends.

- Next, attach your twine or yarn to the top of your elephant.

- To make the tail cut 3 strands of grey yarn approximately 5 inches long. Using your hook pass all three strands through a stitch between the 7th and 8th round from the bottom (I placed mine on the side so that it would be visible from the front, you could also place at the back of your elephant). You will want your string length to be the same on each side (see first picture below for reference). Create a braid approximately 1 inch long and secure with a knot. Trim to desired length. With your tapestry needle pull through the edge of your tail to create a ‘fuzzy’ edge. Optional: Sew or hot glue tail in place.

Your elephant ornament is complete! I hope you have enjoyed making this pattern. Let me know if you have any questions about this pattern or any of my other patterns, I would be happy to help.

Thank you,

Stephanie
