Free Crochet Mary Pattern - Nativity CAL Part 8

Then the Angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus." Luke 1:30-31

We are on Part 8 of our Nativity Crochet-A-Long, Mary! She was such a fun piece to design and I can't help but wonder how she felt when the Angel came to visit. Such an honor to receive such favor!

Her piece comes out to be about 4.5 inches tall with the body and head made as one. Her hair can be braided and sewn in front as pictured or left in the back.

If you're just joining in (or have missed some parts along the way) head over here for all the dates, details and materials for our Nativity CAL! Mary is Part 8 of 9 that we'll be working on through the month and into December.

Materials –

- Size 4 worsted weight yarn (I used WeCrochet Comfy Worsted in the colors Peony, Parchment, Thicket)

- 3.5 mm crochet hook

- 9mm safety eyes

- Black crochet/embroidery thread for eyelashes/eyebrows/nose

- Scissors

- Tapestry needle (bent tips work wonders for amigurumi)

- Stuffing

- Stitch markers

Weighted Base Materials –

Making a weighted base is optional but recommended to help your pieces stand alone. Please keep in mind they involve small pieces if you are intending your set to be handled by young ones.

- Poly-pellets (approx. ½ to 1 tbsp)

- 1 Knee-high stocking

NOTES -

- Slowly stuff as you go, you want it to be firm but not stretched. You will be working in the round; I like to use a stitch marker at the beginning of each round.

- The body and head will be made as one piece.

Weighted Base Tutorial –

1. To make a weighted base pour ½ tbsp to 1 tbsp inside of a knee-high stocking (you want just enough to fill the base of your piece).

2. Tie into a knot and cut off excess.

3. Place into the bottom of your Angel after round 14.

4. Continue to crochet and stuff per usual.

Before beginning cut a strand of your skin color approx. 6 inches long, we will use this halfway through for our nose.

Assembly –

- Position hair as desired and sew into place. Optional: Use pins to hold the bangs in place as you sew. I lightly braided the strands in the back and tacked into place to stay in the front.

Your Mary piece is complete! I'll see you back on Friday for our final piece (Baby Jesus!)
