Happy Friday friends! I'm so excited to introduce you to the Color Block Throw Pillow!
I was ready to make a little something for myself and adding a pop of color to our decor was just the thing. I've been a little hooked on the herringbone half double crochet stitches lately and I love how it worked up in this crochet pillow!
I designed this pattern for the Spring Style Blog Hop hosted by Itchin' For Some Stitchin' and Ned and Mimi. A new pattern is featured each day for the month of March, all full of Spring inspiration!
On top of the lovely blog hop, WeCrochet was so kind to gift the yarn to design each pattern! I've worked with Dishie before and knew it would be perfect for this pillow. Their Dishie yarn is 100% cotton and glides so smoothly.

Materials -
- Dishie cotton yarn (or similar worsted weight cotton); 2 skeins each of Swan and Begonia, 1 skein of Linen
- 4 mm crochet hook
- 12x16 pillow form
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
- Stitch markers (optional)
Abbreviations - US terminology
HHDC – Herringbone half double crochet
St(s)- Stitch(es)
Ch - Chain

NOTES -
-Finished pillow measures 12 inches by 16 inches.
-Pillow will be made by crocheting two panels which will then be sewn together.
-Ch 2 does not count as a stitch throughout the pattern.
-Leave a long tail when changing colors, this can be used when sewing.
Gauge –
4 inch square = 17 HHDC sts for 16 rows
Special Stitches –
Herringbone Half Double Crochet Stitch (HHDC)
1. Yarn over (just as you would for a normal HDC).
2. Insert your hook into the next stitch and yarn over again.
3. Pull your yarn through the stitch and through one of the loops on your hook, you now have two loops on your hook.
4. Lastly, yarn over and pull through both loops. Your HHDC stitch is complete!
Pillow Panel – Make 2
With Begonia, Ch 51
Row 1: HHDC into the 2nd Ch from your hook, HHDC into each Ch across, turn (50)
Row 2: Ch 2, HHDC across, turn (50)
We will be repeating row 2 throughout the panel. Change colors as listed below.
Rows 3-29: Continue with Begonia
Rows 30-45: Swan
Rows 46-47: Linen
Rows 48-49: Swan
Rows 50-51: Linen
Rows 52-53: Swan
Rows 54-55: Linen
Rows 56-57: Swan
Rows 58-59: Linen
Rows 60-61: Swan
Rows 62-63: Linen
Row 64: Swan
Assembly –
- With wrong sides facing together, whip stitch along the sides and top, leaving the bottom open to insert your pillow form. Use your tail ends where possible.
- Next, insert your pillow form and whip stitch across the bottom. Applying pressure to the opposite end will help in holding the pillow form in place. Weave in your ends.
