Designing a giraffe pattern has been on my list for some time and I love his sweet little spots! His legs, body and head are made as one piece. And don't forget to peep that cute little tail!

Materials -
Abbreviations - US terminology
MC – Magic circle
SC- Single crochet
SC INC- Single crochet increase
INV DEC- Invisible decrease
DC – Double crochet
Sl St – Slip stitch
St(s) – Stitch(es)
Rep - Repeat
Notes –
-Giraffe measures approximately 13 inches tall from top of horn to feet.
-Slowly stuff as you go, you want it to be firm but not stretched. You will be working in a continuous round, I like using a stitch marker at the beginning of each round.
-The legs, body and head are made as one piece.
- Yarn used in pictures is I Love This Yarn in the shades Sungold, Brown and Ivory.
Nose -
With ivory
Round 1: Create a MC with 6 SC
Round 2: SC INC in each st (12)
Round 3: *SC in the first st, SC INC in the next*, *rep around (18)
Round 4: *SC in the first 5 sts, SC INC in the next*, *rep around (21)
Round 5: SC around (21)
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing. With black crochet or embroidery thread make 2 nostrils between rounds 3 and 4, 3 sts apart.
Legs -
Make 2 – Starting with brown
Round 1: Create a MC with 6 SC
Round 2: SC INC in each st (12)
Round 3: *SC in the first st, SC INC in the next*, *rep around (18)
Rounds 4-7: SC around (18)
Change to ivory
Round 8: SC around (18)
Round 9: SC around (18)
Change to yellow
Rounds 10-22: SC around (18)
Fasten off on the first leg only. When you complete the 2nd leg continue to round 13 to join the legs.
Round 23: SC in the next 6 sts (this will align our color changes to be at the back when our join is complete). Chain 3 and attach to the first leg with a SC. SC in the remaining stitches around the leg. When you reach the chain make a SC across each of the 3 chains. SC in the remaining stitches of the next leg and SC across each of the 3 chains again. You will have crocheted on each side of the chain. (42 SC) This completes your join and is where your next round will start to form the body.
Rounds 24-40: SC around (42)
Round 41: *SC in the first 5 sts, INV DEC*, *rep around (36)
Round 42: *SC in the first 4 sts, INV DEC*, *rep around (30)
Round 43: SC around (30)
Round 44: *SC in the first 3 sts, INV DEC*, *rep around (24)
Round 45: *SC in the first 2 sts, INV DEC*, *rep around (18)
Rounds 46-50: SC around (18)
Here is where we will start the head
Round 51: *SC in the first 2 sts, SC INC in the next*, *rep around (24)
Round 52: *SC in the first 3 sts, SC INC in the next*, *rep around (30)
Round 53: *SC in the first 4 sts, SC INC in the next*, *rep around (36)
Round 54: *SC in the first 5 sts, SC INC in the next*, *rep around (42)
Round 55: *SC in the first 6 sts, SC INC in the next*, *rep around (48)
Round 56: *SC in the first 7 sts, SC INC in the next*, *rep around (54)
Rounds 57-65: SC around (54)
NOTE: Here is where we will attach the facial features. Place the safety eyes 8 sts apart between rounds 62 and 63. Add eyebrows/eyelashes to your liking before securing the backs of your safety eyes.
Nose – Sew your nose piece centered between the eyes adding stuffing as you go.
Round 66: *SC in the first 7 sts, INV DEC*, *rep around (48)
Round 67: *SC in the first 6 sts, INV DEC*, *rep around (42)
Round 68: *SC in the first 5 sts, INV DEC*, *rep around (36)
Round 69: *SC in the first 4 sts, INV DEC*, *rep around (30)
*Continue to stuff the head and neck firmly to avoid a wobbly head*
Round 70: *SC in the first 3 sts, INV DEC*, *rep around (24)
Round 71: *SC in the first 2 sts, INV DEC*, *rep around (18)
Round 72: *SC in the first st, INV DEC*, *rep around (12)
Round 73: INV DEC around (6)
Fasten off and sew remaining hole closed, weave in your end.
Ears- Make 2
With yellow
Round 1: Create a MC with 7 SC
Rounds 2-3: SC around (7)
Round 4: SC INC in each st (14)
Rounds 5-9: SC around (14)
Fold ear in half and SC across the top to close, fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.
Arms- Make 2 (lightly stuff)
With brown
Round 1: Create a MC with 6 SC
Round 2: SC INC in each st (12)
Rounds 3-5: SC around (12)
Change to ivory
Rounds 6-7: SC around (12)
Change to yellow
Rounds 8-22: SC around (12)
At the end of round 22 pinch the arm flat and make 6 SC across the top, fasten off leaving a long tail.
Horns – Make 2
With brown
Round 1: Create a MC with 6 SC
Round 2: SC INC in each st (12)
Round 3: *SC in the first st, SC INC in the next*, *rep around (18)
Round 4: SC around (18)
Round 5: *SC in the first st, INV DEC*, *rep around (12)
Change to yellow
Round 6: *SC in the first 4 sts, INV DEC in the next*, *rep around (10)
Rounds 7-9: SC around (10)
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing. Firmly stuff each horn.
Large Spot – Make 3
With brown
Round 1: Create a MC with 6 SC
Round 2: SC INC in each st (12)
Round 3: *2DC in the first st, sl st in the next*, *rep around (18)
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.
Small Spot – Make 5
With brown
Round 1: Create a MC with 6 SC
Round 2: *2DC in the first st, sl st in the next*, *rep around (9)
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.
Tail –
Cut 1 strand each of yellow, brown and ivory approximately 8 inches long. Using your crochet hook, pull the strands through a center lower stitch on the back of your giraffe and braid to your desired length. Secure with a knot and trim as needed.
Assembly –
- Sew each horn starting at the 5th round and ending at the 7th round from the top.
- Next, sew each ear just outside of the horns.
- Sew the arms on at round 43 from the bottom.
- Lastly, sew the large and small spots randomly onto the front and back of the body.

- 12 mm safety eyes
- Crochet thread/embroidery floss for facial features
- Scissors
