Free Amigurumi Butterfly Pattern

Beatrice and Barnaby now have a new friend on the blog, Bree the Butterfly! I fell in love with the speckles of color in Hobby Lobby's Baby Bee Stork Struck yarn in the shade Puppy Love. I knew it would make the perfect detail for Bree's wings!

It was super soft to work with and paired really well with this I Love This Yarn in Cherry Blossom (such a sweet pink!).

Bree's pattern works up with the body and head as one piece. Once assembled she came out about 10 inches tall. Her wings and antennae are the only parts requiring sewing. Optional tip: A hot glue gun also gets the job done!

NOTES -

- Finished butterfly measures approximately 10 inches tall.

- Slowly stuff as you go, you want it to be firm but not stretched. You will be working in the round; I like to use a stitch marker at the beginning of each round.

- The body and head will be made as one piece.

- Yarn used in pictures is Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn in the shade Cherry Blossom and Baby Bee Stork Struck in the shade Puppy Love.

Nose-
Before beginning cut a strand of pink yarn approximately 10 inches long. We will use this for the nose.

Note: Here is where we will add the facial features before we start closing the head. Insert the eyes between rows 37 and 38, 7 stitches apart. Optional: Place your eyes where you would like them and then remove to embroider your eyelashes before attaching the washer to the back. (This creates a little hole to help see where you want your eyelashes to go).

Nose - With your long strand of pink yarn, place the nose one row beneath your eyes and two stitches in on each side (this will leave 3 stitches in the middle and this is what you will pass your yarn through to create the nose). Pass through 3-4 times.

Smile – With crochet thread create a ‘V’ for your smile below the nose.

Cheeks – With pink yarn create the cheeks by passing through a stitch just outside each eye.

Assembly –

1. Sew each antenna starting about the 4th round and ending at the 6th round from the top.

2. Next, sew the wings onto the center back of your bee with the large wings on top and small wings on the bottom. I recommend pinning the wings in place before sewing to ensure you have the look you like from the front.

Your butterfly is complete! I hope you have enjoyed making this pattern. Let me know if you have any questions, I would be happy to help.

Thank you,

Stephanie
