2025 is here! The grey and rain that comes in January has me thinking of those sun shining spring days to come.
Miss Callie the Cactus is bringing a little pop of color and cheer to my office and I'm excited to share her free pattern with you below.
Making amigurumi is one of my favorites hobbies and to combine that with some soft and squishy yarn has been fun in this make.
Callie can be worked up in a day and measures approximately 9 inches tall.
I hope she brings a spark of joy as you work on her pattern as well!

Materials -
Abbreviations - US terminology
MC- Magic circle
SC- Single crochet
DC – Double crochet
SC INC- Single crochet increase
INV DEC- Invisible decrease
St(s)- Stitch(es)
Rep – Repeat
Ch – Chain
Sl st – Slip stitch
NOTES -
- Slowly stuff as you go, you want it to be firm but not stretched.
- You will be working in the round; I like to use a stitch marker at the beginning of each round.
- Finished plush cactus measures approximately 9 inches tall.
- Yarn used in picture is Baby Bee Snugs and Kisses in the shade Baby Jade.
Body –
Round 1: Create a MC with 7 SC
Round 2: SC INC in each st around (14)
Round 3: *SC in the first st, SC INC in the next*, *rep around (21)
Round 4: *SC in the first 2 sts, SC INC in the next*, *rep around (28)
Round 5: *SC in the first 3 sts, SC INC in the next*, *rep around (35)
Round 6: *SC in the first 4 sts, SC INC in the next*, *rep around (42)
Rounds 7-20: SC around (42)
Note - Here is where we will add the facial features before we start closing the head. Insert your safety eyes between rounds 16 and 17, 5 stitches apart. With black yarn add eyelashes/eyebrows to your liking before securing the backs to your safety eyes.
Smile – With black yarn add a smile a few rows below the eyes by making a ‘v’.
Cheeks – With pink or red yarn add cheeks just outside of each of the eyes.
Round 21: *SC in the first 4 sts, INV DEC in the next*, *rep around (35)
Round 22: *SC in the first 3 sts, INV DEC in the next*, *rep around (28)
*Continue to stuff firmly
Round 23: *SC in the first 2 sts, INV DEC in the next*, *rep around (21)
Round 24: *SC in the first st, INV DEC in the next*, *rep around (14)
Round 25: INV DEC around (7)
Fasten off and sew the remaining part closed, weave in your end.
Branches (arms)- Make 2
Lightly stuff the top only
Round 1: Create a magic circle with 6 SC
Round 2: SC INC in each st around (12)
Rounds 3-5: SC around (12)
Round 6: 4 SC INC, 4 INV DEC (12)
Rounds 7-8: 2 INV DEC, 4 SC INC, 2 INV DEC (12)
Pinch arm flat and SC across the top to close. Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing onto the body.
Flowers –
With colors of choice make 3
Make a MC, complete the following inside. 2DC, sl st (this completes one petal), repeat 4 more times for a total of 5 petals.
Pull the circle tight and sl st to the first petal to close. Fasten off leaving a tail for sewing.
Assembly –
- Sew the arms onto either side of the body having one side a few rounds higher than the other.
- Sew each flower onto the base of one of the arms.

- Size 4 worsted weight yarn (small amount of black and pink; choice of colors for flowers)
- 4.5 mm crochet hook
- 15mm safety eyes
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
- Stuffing
- Stitch markers
