Free Crochet Plush Penguin Amigurumi Pattern

Happy Friday and welcome to our first week of Christmas in July 2024! Amanda of Loops and Love Crochet and I are teaming up for the 5th year in a row to bring you a new pattern each week in the month of July all geared with getting a head start on your winter makes!

Every Friday this month will be a new pattern release starting with this sweet guys' debut today. Meet Pierre, our new plush penguin pattern!

His body and head are made as one piece meaning the only sewing involved will be his wings and feet. His pattern is simple and full of squishy cuddles with his plush yarn.

Materials -

  • Size 6 super bulky weight yarn (75 yards of blue; small amount of white and orange)
  • 4.5 mm crochet hook (these are the hooks I use and love!)
  • 12mm safety eyes
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle (bent tips work great for amigurumi)
  • Stuffing
  • Stitch markers

Abbreviations - US terminology

MC- Magic circle

SC- Single crochet

SC INC- Single crochet increase

INV DEC- Invisible decrease

St(s)- Stitch(es)

Rep – Repeat

Ch – Chain

Sl st – Slip stitch

NOTES -

- Slowly stuff as you go, you want it to be firm but not stretched.

- You will be working in the round; I like to use a stitch marker at the beginning of each round.

- The body and head will be made as one piece.

- Finished plush penguin measures approximately 9 inches tall.

- Yarn used in pictures is Hobbii Toucan in the shade Sky Blue.

Changing Colors -

When working on the head we will be switching back and forth between blue and white to give detail to our facial features. You will change to each color during the last half of your single crochet stitch.

1. When completing the last stitch before your color change, insert your hook into your stitch, yarn over with the first color and pull through.

2. Drop your first color and use your new color to yarn over and finish the stitch by pulling through all loops on your hook. You now have your new color on your hook.
