Free Crochet Linen Stitch Blanket Pattern

At the start of 2021 I made a goal to be intentional in using the yarn in my stash as much as I could throughout the year.

To help meet this goal I decided to break it down into bite size pieces with monthly goals. January's goal was to work through my Mandala Ombre skeins, I had 4 on my shelves and always intended to make them into a blanket one day.

I also have a little bit of an addiction to Feels Like Butta and they made the perfect pair for this blanket! My January goal also rolled into February, but that's ok. It sure felt good to clear so many skeins of yarn off my shelves and into something I can use everyday!

I did end up having to order one more skein of yarn but it was totally worth it! All in all I used 5 skeins of Mandala Ombre in Tranquil and 5 skeins of Feels Like Butta in White.

The Mandala yarn self-striped almost perfectly, I love how the colors transitioned smoothly from one to the next. And it meant less ends to weave in when I was done! Because I was trying to use up my skeins of yarn I started with my Mandala and just kept crocheting until the skein was up, then I switched to my Feels Like Butta skein and did the same.

All in all it ended up being 35 rows with the Mandala and 25 rows with the Feels Like Butta. Put this on repeat and you have some beautiful rainbow stripes! Aka the Rainbows of Linen Blanket!

For the stitch I went with the Linen Stitch (also known as the granite or moss stitch). I love the perfect little 'v's and the simple repeat makes it perfect for those evening crochet sessions watching your favorite show!

Rows 241-275: Color A (35 rows)

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Blocking –

Blocking is optional but highly recommended to help add the finishing touches to your blanket. I used a garment steamer but you can also use a spray bottle in its place.

Steam Block –

Step 1 – Pin your crochet piece to your blocking mat in straight lines.

Step 2 – With your garment steamer hover over your square moving evenly back and forth until it is damp.

Step 3 – Let it dry and you are done. Once your piece is dry you can remove the pins.

Tassels –

With Color B make 4 tassels.

Using a book or DVD case wrap your yarn (not too tightly) around the width of your book 65 times. Slide your yarn off the book while keeping your circular (loop) shape.

Cut one side of your loop of yarn as pictured.

Cut 2 pieces of yarn approximately 10” long. Use the first to tie around the middle of your tassel strands. Pull your yarn tie up and let your loose strands hang down to form a tassel shape.

Take your 2nd piece of yarn and lay it horizontally under your tassel about an inch from the top. Tie in a knot to secure and pull the ends through the tassel with your hook or tapestry needle. With sharp scissors trim to your desired length.

Using the ends from your first tie and a tapestry needle sew your tassel to each corner of the blanket. Once secured use your tapestry needle to pull your leftover tail through the tassel and trim as needed.

Your blanket is complete! I hope you have enjoyed making this pattern!
