Free Crochet Acorn Pattern

Happy Fall Y'all! I'm so excited to introduce you to Anna the Acorn! Making an acorn has been on my list for some time and I love how she turned out!

I used some scrap Dishie cotton yarn I had on hand and these colors were perfect to catch her Fall details!

She works up quickly, measuring about 3 inches tall and a fun project if you've been wanting to try amigurumi!

You can use any worsted (weight 4) yarn, cotton or acrylic. In fact, she would be rather adorable in an oversized yarn too, like a chunky velvet!

New to amigurumi? Check out our Tips page here! I'll walk you through the basics and common methods used in the pattern below.

Abbreviations - US terminology

MC- Magic circle

SC- Single crochet

HDC – Half double crochet

DC – Double crochet

SC INC- Single crochet increase

INV DEC- Invisible decrease

Sl St – Slip stitch

St(s)- Stitch(es)

NOTES -

- Finished acorn measures approximately 3 inches tall.

- Slowly stuff as you go, you want it to be firm but not stretched. You will be working in the round; I like to use a stitch marker at the beginning of each round.

- The body will be worked from the bottom up.

Body -

Before beginning, cut a 5-inch strand of your beige yarn and set aside, we will use this to create the nose halfway through the body.

Round 1: Create a magic circle with 6 SC

Round 2: SC INC in each st (12)

Round 3: SC in the first st, SC INC in the next, rep around (18)

Round 4: SC in the first 2 sts, SC INC in the next, rep around (24)

Round 5: SC in the first 3 sts, SC INC in the next, rep around (30)

Rounds 6-10: SC around (30)

Round 11: SC in the first 4 sts, SC INC in the next, rep around (36)

Rounds 12-14: SC around (36)

NOTE: Here is where we will attach the facial features. Place the safety eyes 3 stitches apart between rounds 10 and 11. Add eyebrows/eyelashes to your liking before securing the backs of your safety eyes.

Nose – With your strand of beige yarn and a tapestry needle, pass through the middle stitch between the eyes to form the nose.

Cheeks – With pink or red yarn and your tapestry needle, pass through 2 sts just outside of each eye.

Smile – With your crochet/embroidery thread create a smile or smirk below the nose.

Round 15: SC in the first 4 sts, INV DEC in the next, rep around (30)

Round 16: SC in the first 3 sts, INV DEC in the next, rep around (24)
