Free Crochet Hamster Pattern

What do you do when your kids ask for a pet hamster? You crochet one! Ok, ok probably not exactly what they had in mind (they wanted a real one), but they are loving this version in the meantime!

Meet Hannah the Hamster, she's about 3 inches tall and is the perfect project for some stash shopping. I used up some of my Lion Brand Feels Like Butta in White and Jeans in Khaki that I had left over from our mini lamb pattern.

But you can use any worsted weight yarn you have on hand. To be honest she'd be just as adorable in a chunky, velvet or blanket yarn as well. Mix up the colors, make a boy version or add a chain for a super cute key chain!

Hannah is also a great pattern if you're just starting out on your amigurumi journey. You'll want to be familiar with making a magic circle, using invisible decreases and changing colors. You can find more information for each technique on our Tips To Learning Amigurumi page here!

I still have some of this yarn left over and have another pattern in testing to share with you soon! You can sign up for our newsletter here or follow us on Facebook, Instagram or Pinterest so you don't miss it.

Cheeks – With pink or red yarn and your tapestry needle, pass through one stitch just outside of each eye.

Round 22: SC in the first 2 sts, INV DEC in the next, rep around (18)

With accent color

Round 1: Create a magic circle with 6 SC

Round 2: SC INC in each st around (12)

Hands and Feet – Make 4

With ivory

Round 1: Create a magic circle with 6 SC

Rounds 2-3: SC around (6)

Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.

Assembly –

- Sew the ears onto the head at round 20 (or the 5th round if counting from the top of the head).

- Next, sew the hands onto rounds 12-14, I left mine unstuffed and kept them evenly lined up with the ears.

- Lastly, sew your feet just below the hands onto rounds 5-7.

Your hamster is complete! I hope you have enjoyed making this pattern. Feel free to share your creation with us in the Grace and Yarn Crochet Group on Facebook, I would love to see them!
