Free Mini Crochet Lamb Pattern

Happy Friday friends! I'm super excited to introduce you to Lily the Lamb! She's just as ready for Spring and florals as I am. Everything around us is starting to bloom and giving a little hint of what's to come.

With so much time at home it's just what we needed to brighten things up! If you too are looking for a new project to keep you busy at home I hope Lily brings some joy and comfort.

Her pattern works up quickly with the legs, body and head as one piece. There's minimal sewing required and she ends up about 8 inches tall. You can also change her features for a super cute boy version. A bow tie like this one used on the Berry Patch Bunny would be the perfect touch!

You can also pair Lily up with this headband to make a set for gifting this Easter or Sprinng!

For Lily's pattern I used Lion Brand Feels Like Butta in white. It's super soft and I enjoyed working with it so much! If you'd like a 'furrier' yarn Bernat's Pipsqueak would also be a great match!

DC – Double crochet

TR – Triple crochet

SC INC- Single crochet increase

INV DEC- Invisible decrease

Sl st – Slip stitch

Rep - Repeat

St(s)- Stitch(es)

NOTES -

- Slowly stuff as you go, you want it to be firm but not stretched. We will be working in the round; I like to use a stitch marker at the beginning of each round.

- The legs, body and head will be made as one piece.

- Finished lamb measures approximately 8 inches tall.

Legs - Make 2

Starting with beige

Round 1: Create a magic circle with 6 SC

Round 2: SC INC in each st (12)

Round 3: SC in the first st, SC INC in the next, rep around (18)

Rounds 4-5: SC around (18)

Change to white

Rounds 6-12: SC around (18)

Fasten off on the first leg only. When you complete the 2nd leg continue to round 13 to join the legs.

Round 13: SC in the next 7 sts (this will align our color changes to be at the back when our join is complete). Chain 3 and attach to the first leg with a SC. SC in the remaining stitches around the leg. When you reach the chain make a SC across each of the 3 chains. SC in the remaining stitches of the next leg and SC across each of the 3 chains again. You will have crocheted on each side of the chain. (42 SC) This completes your join and is where your next round will start.

Rounds 14-24: SC around (42)

Round 25: SC in the first 5 sts, INV DEC in the next, rep around (36)

Round 26: SC in the first 4 sts, INV DEC in the next, rep around (30)

Round 27: SC around (30)

Round 28: SC in the first 3 sts, INV DEC in the next, rep around (24)

Rounds 36-43: SC around (54)

Round 44: SC in the first 7 sts, INV DEC in the next, rep around (48)

NOTE - Here is where we will attach the facial features. Place the safety eyes 7 stitches apart between rounds 41 and 42. Add eyebrows/eyelashes to your liking before securing the backs of your safety eyes.

Nose - With brown crochet thread (or your beige yarn) make a ‘V’ for the nose starting at row 41 centered between the eyes. I spaced my ‘V’ with 3 stitches between the outer points and 2 stitches in on each side of the eyes. Lastly, create a line straight down from the center of your ‘V’ covering 2 rounds.

Cheeks – With pink yarn create the cheeks one round below and one stitch to the outer side of each eye covering a span of 2 stitches.

Round 45: SC in the first 6 sts, INV DEC in the next, rep around (42)

Round 46: SC in the first 5 sts, INV DEC in the next, rep around (36)

Round 47: SC in the first 4 sts, INV DEC in the next, rep around (30)

Round 48: SC in the first 3 sts, INV DEC in the next, rep around (24)

*Continue to stuff the head and neck firmly to avoid a wobbly head*

Round 49: SC in the first 2 sts, INV DEC in the next, rep around (18)

At the end of round 14 pinch the arm flat and make 5 SC across the top to close, fasten off and leave a long tail to sew onto the body.

Flowers –

Make 5

Make a magic circle, complete the following inside: 2 DC, slip stitch (this completes one petal, repeat 4 more times for a total of 5 petals).

Pull the circle tight and slip stitch to the first petal to close, fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.

Leaves –

Make 2

Complete the following inside of a magic circle; SC, HDC, DC, TR, Ch 1, TR, DC, HDC, SC. Pull tight to close and secure, fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.

Assembly –
  • Place a front and back earpiece with wrong sides facing each other and sew together. Pinch the sides together at one end and sew together to form the shape of the ear. Be sure to leave your remaining tail for sewing onto the head. Complete this step with the second ear.
  • Sew the ears onto the head at round 41 on each side.

  • Next, sew the arms onto the body centered with the head at round 27.
  • Sew your flowers and leaves as a ‘crown’ between the ears across the head. Optional – Hold in place with sewing pins to find desired placement.
  • Lastly, cut 2 strands of beige and 1 strand of white approximately 6 inches long to make the tail. Using your crochet hook, pull the strands through a center stitch on the back of your lamb. Next, pull your ends through the loop and pull tight. Next, braid the tail to your desired length and knot to secure. Trim any excess.

Your mini lamb is complete! I hope you have enjoyed making this pattern. Feel free to share a picture of your sweet creation with us on Facebook or Instagram, we'd love to see them!
